Midwifery on the Settelmeyer Ranch

Sarah and I watched this calf’s birth yesterday.

Sarah and I got to watch the morning feeding at the lower Settelmeyer ranch in the Carson Valley yesterday. We observed the birth of this little calf about thirty seconds before this photograph. We had to wait for its birth in order to deliver the bale of hay.

This was the sixth of six newborns for whom we delivered a bale of hay to their moms, that morning. As a bonus, I got my ear hooked by a song from Corb Lund. I’m darn partial to Supertramp, when it comes to my Canadian musicians, but this young whippersnapper has caught my ear, ever since.
